Socioecological Landscape Planning: An Approach to Multi-Functional Forest Management
In the socioecological landscape planning of natural resources, as presented in this article, sociocultural and ecological decision criteria are considered with ‘traditional’ timber production analyses in an integrated and holistic way. As the main phases, the approach involves: pinpointing sites that are important with respect to management objectives related to ecological or sociocultural con...
متن کاملGods, Rituals, and the Moral Order
The functionalist “law” that religion sustains the moral order must be amended. As is demonstrated in this study, religion has this effect only as it is based on belief in powerful, active, conscious, morally-concerned gods. Contrary to Durkheim’s claims, participation in religious rituals per se has little independent impact on morality and none when done on behalf of gods conceived as unconsc...
متن کاملThe gaming landscape: a taxonomy for classifying games and simulations
Following Huizinga’s view, the play element of culture is emphasized. While playing, by means of rules, the participants in a game interact with one another to impact on the reference system. Thousands of simulation games are available that depict many different areas and purposes of use. The variety of the gaming landscape is illustrated by linking the various foci and areas of interest in one...
متن کاملDynamic landscape models of coevolutionary games
Players of coevolutionary games may update not only their strategies but also their networks of interaction. Based on interpreting the payoff of players as fitness, dynamic landscape models are proposed. The modeling procedure is carried out for Prisoner's Dilemma (PD) and Snowdrift (SD) games that both use either birth-death (BD) or death-birth (DB) strategy updating. The main focus is on usin...
متن کاملCoevolutionary Intransitivity in Games: A Landscape Analysis
Intransitivity is supposed to be a main reason for deficits in coevolutionary progress and inheritable superiority. Besides, coevolutionary dynamics is characterized by interactions yielding subjective fitness, but aiming at solutions that are superior with respect to an objective measurement. Such an approximation of objective fitness may be, for instance, generalization performance. In the pa...
